Don’t Kill Kermit!
‘Eat the frog’ is not a recipe for grilled Muppet but a personal management technique. The idea is that you do the thing you don’t want to but *need* to. The most important thing. First thing in the morning. Obviously after that all important cup of coffee.
This is the advice of Brian Tracy. I think there is a lot to it, but it needs coupling with when your optimum work time is (mine is the early morning – yawn). Where the frog idea came from is interesting ….
Eat the frog!
Brian Tracy loves the Pareto Principle. The 80/20 rule. Derived by Vilfredo Pareto in 1885 (he was looking at wealthy Italians). He applies it to work – you get 80% of the impact from 20% of what you do.
Certainly, no-one ever got promoted for ‘working hard’. Results and getting noticed for them are so important.
Let’s find the quality frogs
I would like you try a quick experiment. No beakers or bunsen burners required!
- Write down ten things on your to do list
- What is the most important?
- What is next most important?
- If you got these things done what would it do for you?
- What is the impact of these two things vs. the rest of the list?
If like me, the urgent crowds out the important, it could be time to eat a couple of frogs.
